Hello, my name is April Baker, and I’m addicted to toys.
Since I was old enough to walk, I’ve been addicted to toys. When there weren’t any to be found, I improvised. Pots & pans, coffee cans, cardboard boxes, you name it and I could turn it into a toy. I was never at a loss for fun with my imagination. I was also fortunate enough to be blessed with a good family life and was rarely without a want. Add on a little brother who, for the most part, didn’t mind sharing his toys, and I had my pick of adventures to have.
Something else that I was very fortunate to experience… timing. I grew up in the 80’s. The 80’s were an amazing time for toys and play! Not only were we lucky enough to live in a much safer world where riding bikes, climbing trees, and playing games until the streetlights came on was the norm, the 80’s had the best toys! Star Wars, Strawberry Shortcake, Transformers, My Little Pony, Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Kids… so many great brands were born! Let’s not forget the video games – Atari, Nintendo, plus tons of arcades! There was so much to see, do, and experience! We also had a great way to learn about all these great toys… Saturday Morning Cartoons and their commercials!
Now, some many, many years later, I still love toys. The new and the old! Thanks to places like eBay and tag sales, it’s fairly easy to reconnect with toys I once loved and discover brands I missed during my high school years. Sadly, the great toy stores are few and far between, but we now have the internet to make up for it! There is nothing like sitting at home in your pjs checking out the latest offerings from LEGO, Mattel, American Girl, and every other brand you can think of!
After all this collecting, I needed something to do with all these toys, so I decided to pop open my toy box and invite you in for a little playdate! I hope you enjoy reliving your childhood and finding out about great new toys for the current generation!
